Monthly report: August 2026

Another lot of travel in August bleeding into September which is why this post is later than usual. Very pleasant to be cool and rained upon a bit.

Highlights of the month:

Solid progress on fitness
First meetings of Homebrew Website Club Asia, most enjoyable
Updated this site's engine without too much trouble
August in town is so good, despite the heat. Parking!
Paid for Claude and started using it to help me code a plugin for webmentions
Dumped Collabora and returned to LibreOffice; a joy
Lightning storms enlivened a couple of evenings
A week in Devon and a day in Glasgow
Steel Magnolias, because we would. Minions, ditto
Resumed podcast episodes
Continuing to enjoy personal wiki, but finding it hard to remember to use it.

Activities

Didn’t want to say anything last month in case it all blew up, but continued to follow the NHS Couch to 5k plan. Started again on a whim, after an exceedingly idle June and most of July, and to my surprise my knees held up and I even enjoyed it a bit.

Stuff Done

Very impressed with the way I was able to guide Claude into making a Grav plugin that receives, verifies, and displays webmentions. Not that it has been snowed under, but it is a definite improvement on the previous system. I’m not going to make the plugin public, although I would share the code if anyone asked. As I see it, doing small steps, making sure I understand what is going on, and thinking about how to proceed turn the exercise from pure luck to something approaching efficient.

Goals

Nine posts, though it didn’t seem like it. Glad I resisted the temptation to do Blaugust as I know I would not have done well. Emboldened by the webmention plugin, I’m starting to think about webpub, though I’m not sure how I would use it. I’m not sending that much to either micro.blog or Mastodon, so ...
