A small selection of flowers wild and cultivated

A very fine month indeed, in all sorts of ways. There was a cinema visit, a birthday party, many meals with friends, and a growing sense of contentment with the life I am privileged to enjoy

Highlights of the month:

  • Guerilla gardening, still surviving
  • Moved from idno to micro.blog
  • BBQs on the terrace
  • Snagged a lovely bamboo stick for Qi Gong
  • Dogsitting for a weekend
  • Open studios at the Spanish Academy
  • Wandering the old neighbourhood for three hours while the car was serviced
  • Almost private glorious visit to Lago di Martignano
  • Off to Umbria for a week with friends old and new.

Stuff Done

I succumbed to the offer of a free month with ChatGPT and enjoyed using it to do things like make it easier (but not easy) to move from idno to micro.blog. That was worth it, and I am happy with the move although there is still stuff to sort out, like hooking MB up to some of my other places. Having seen what the paid version will do, now thinking hard about paying for Claude instead. Maybe.

Hours logged per month

Once again, despite having complained about this last month, I failed to copy over the requisite stuff to enable me to graph the details. One of the things I asked ChatGPT to do was to to tidy up my various bits of code, which it helped me to do, but I have not mirrored that here.

Previous years are still on an archive page.

Goals

Nine posts, some still too geeky. Fascinated by how I could very easily move all longer-form writing to MB and be done with the various frictions involved in this site, but something keeps me hammering away. Next thing will be to upgrade to Grav 2.0 and then resume building my own webmentions solution, and it is in good measure the satisfaction that those sorts of things bring that keep me doing it.

Niggles

Just what has become the major niggle of the travelling season, that I am forever forgetting to make my portable machines functional mirrors. That includes the Birdnet-Pi, but I have hatched a cunning plan for that, which wiser people suggest “should work”. Ha!

Final remarks

Here we are, halfway through the year, and everything it better than it has been in a long while.

Webmentions

Webmentions allow conversations across the web, based on a web standard. They are a powerful building block for the decentralized social web.

If you write something on your own site that links to this post, you can send me a Webmention by putting your post's URL in here:

Comments

I very much regret that Russian spammers have made my comment system unusable. If you want to email me a comment, it is easy enough to find the address and I will be happy to do the needful behind the scenes. Webmentions remain available (for now).
