A kind cyberchum alerted me to some mobile display issues, initially with my podcast website and then this site. I set to yesterday and with the help of the developer tools in Firefox and Safari, managed to diagnose the problem and find a fix, which involved the new-to-me CSS selector of first-of-type.
Fine, I thought. Done. But then I checked the site this morning on my iPhone 11, and the problem was still there. Caching, I thought, so I looked again in desktop browsers. There, it looked OK.
I was officially bewildered. I was sufficiently bewildered to create the image above, with the circles (no arrows) indicating the crime. And then I thought, could iOS Safari keep its caches even when I have cleared them on the desktop? In all other respects they seem totally in sync. And lo! It was so. As soon as I worked out how to do the needful in iOS Safari, all looked just fine everywhere, except, perhaps, on my cyberchum's phone.
