		<description>Check this week&#039;s Economist (Charlemagne, p48) on Irish voters, who are probably among the more astute in the EU (fond, as they are, of the power of the single transferrable vote system of proportional representation). It&#039;s slightly depressing, until you consider the competition.

And I&#039;m not referring to Ryanair and Alitalia :-)

1. It clearly doesn&#039;t matter. The truth is that there more to everything than we can possibly imagine. It&#039;s nice to have a clue of the scale of our ignorance, of course, but I don&#039;t think individual ignorance matters. I tried to read a book on electricity once. It was soporific in the exteme. It became a joke. It took a while I admitted defeat. Now I don&#039;t lose any sleep over it.

2. Quadruple the salary of teachers and admit only the best. There is no other way.

3. Not without doing 2.

BTW Next time you&#039;re in San Francisco visit the Exploratorium.</description>
