Scenes from Roman Life 14: Nun surfing

I am developing an unhealthy obsession with nuns. After all, in the end they’re probably more or less normal people, with the same hopes, fears, ambitions etc as the rest of us. But I still find it noteworthy when I see them doing more or less normal things. Like using laptop computers. And wearing groovy Birkenstocks.

So, what’s the nun fetish all about? Their unavailability? They aspire to be “brides of Christ” which is not a popular ambition these days. How about women in chadors? I find veiled faces sinister myself. Or this just a photographic aesthetic?

If I had my way I’d turn the world over to the nuns. There’d be no more wars or hungry children in short order.

I find young ladies in headscarves rather attractive (or I would if I ever saw any). However, I’mot sure if it was early exposure to nuns or later teenage scanning for talent in church! They covered their heads in those days.

If you have never gone as a small boy with a sweet tooth and short trousers into a nunnery you haven’t experienced love!

Thanks for that. I’ve never gone into a nunnery at any age, in any dress, with any tooth. Seems like I’ve been missing something.

I think, as I said, that its the notion of these extraordinary people doing ordinary things that appeals.
