Villa Lante

265268253 Ee3D931Cc1 M Wonderful expedition yesterday to the Villa Lante, “the consummate example of the best period in the history of garden design: the Mannerist phase of the Italian renaissance”. A very fine garden it is too, made even more enjoyable by a glorious autumn day with just a hint of chill in the air.

This post, however, is not about the gardens but about the total mess I got myself into trying to geotag them. I’m not exactly sure what happened, but somewhere along the line the metadata got entirely corrupted such that none of my recently discovered tools could read the data or fix it. That meant exploring yet more tools, and I did eventually solve the problem, wobbling in and out of XML files and other such voodoo, albeit at the expense of the rest of the EXIF data. Tant pis.

Alas, the new version of PictureSync, whose praises I had sung so lavishly before, did me no good whatsoever; some meaningless error about not being able to set something or other to true nagged away every time I tried to do anything. Luckily I still had the old version on the laptop, but it will be nice when everything just works.

Anyway, all fixed now. The set is here.

If this issue is not fixed (and if you haven’t already) please send feedback to me with details of the error and I’ll look into it. Do attach one of the affected files so I can reproduce the problem.

Thanks.

I just downloaded an update to Picturesync, and the problem has gone away. Wonderful service!

Dear Jeremy,

firstly this is to send You regards and wishes … hopefully You are fine and the people and things around You
are both friendly and interesting … there is some news and some request asking for Your support: I have received an appointment as visiting professor at UCL for the period from 1 March to 30 September 2007 and would indeed like to accept this appointment .. most trivial problem .. where to live in London without being forced to sell my
grandfather’s house or the appendant vineyards … maybe You can help me in giving some suggestions or even specific ideas on how and where to investigate for a small affordable flat located in an agreable and interesting district though … I even could enter into an exchange of flats if somebody would stay in Vienna for appr. the same period of time.
Thanks a lot in advance for Your comments! Maybe this sejour will also set up an occasion to meet up in London for having some more words together than during Stella’s birthday party!

Best wishes,

Elmar

P.S.: The Villa Lante gardens are indeed magnificent and well known as a striking example of Mannerism – terraces and water …
